The Khemkaran police have registered a case against eight persons in connection with a firing incident on Diwali night. The accused include three members of a family.

The police said four of the accused had been identified as Roop Singh, his two sons Jaspal Singh and Jasraj Singh, and Nishan Singh. The identity of the rest is yet to be established.

Complainant Balwinder Singh told police that the accused, armed with dreaded weapons, attacked him on Diwali mid-night, threatening to eliminate him. He said Roop Singh had borrowed Rs 6 lakh from one Moti Shah and he (Balwinder) was the mediator who facilitated the deal. Roop Singh was being asked to returned the money for which they were at loggerheads.

The police said none of them had been arrested. Sections 307, 506, 148,149 of the IPC, and 25, 27, 54 and 59 under the Arms Act had been slapped on them.

According to the police, the matter would be investigated meticulously and the accused would be behind the bars soon.
