660 of 992 stolen wheat bags recovered, four held

AMRITSAR: The city police have arrested four persons for stealing a total of 992 wheat bags from a Punsup godown by thrashing on the intervening night of October 12 and 13.

The city police have arrested four persons for stealing a total of 992 wheat bags from a Punsup godown by thrashing on the intervening night of October 12 and 13.

Those arrested have been identified as Kuldeep Singh of Pahuwind village, Gurmeet Singh of Bhagupur village at Patti, Dildar Singh of Amarkot Mirke village and Ramesh Kumar of Gaggoani village in Zira. The police confiscated 660 bags out of total 992 wheat bags stolen from the godown. Police officials said raids were on to nab their accomplices.

ACP (west) Dev Datt Sharma said, in a complaint to the police, Punsup inspector Manjit Singh had stated that around 25 persons came on two trucks and broke open the gate of the godown. They thrashed the watchmen and took them hostage.

During investigation, the police zeroed in on the four suspects and recovered stolen wheat from Zira, the ACP said. He said interrogation was underway to identify their accomplices and recovery the remaining wheat.
