Amritsar, October 11

The Gharinda police have booked three persons for allegedly thrashing four bailiffs, who had gone to take possession of a piece of land in Cheecha Bhakna village on the orders of a court on Tuesday. Those booked were identified as Piara Singh, Jaswinder Singh and Baljit Singh, all residents of the same village.

According to information, they had a land dispute with some persons in the village and the court had given verdict in the latter’s favour. The court sent four bailiffs to get the possession of the land and hand it over to the persons who had won the legal battle.

When the four bailiffs — Nirmal Singh, Kartar Singh, Lakhbir Singh and Satnam Singh — reached the spot, the accused had a verbal duel with them. Later, they allegedly thrashed them with their belts. The victims, somehow, managed to run away and narrated the whole episode to the judicial magistrate. The court ordered the medical examination of the victims and registration of the case against the accused.

The Gharinda police have slapped Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a government servant from discharging his duties), 186 (obstructing government servant from discharging his duties), 506 (criminal intimidation and threatening), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC.

SHO Yadwinder Singh said raids were on to arrest the suspects who were at large.
