The Airport Authority of India (AAI) today launched a 30-minute Wi-Fi service at Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport here for International passengers in collaboration with Connexun Informatics Private Limited.

Until now, free Wi-Fi was available for Indian mobile numbers only.

Amritsar airport director Venkateshwar Rao, in his keynote address on the occasion, said the service would immensely help travellers in making their journey convenient, as they could surf to track the status of their connecting flights and other transport arrangements on their handsets.

Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat, who is also the chairman of the Tourism Council, was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony.

He said Punjab tourism was supporting the initiative and sees great potential in connecting with the large Punjabi diaspora and international tourists.

Every month, about 25,000 international travellers transit here. Additionally, thousands of international travellers transit at the Amritsar airport every month via domestic flights that connect the holy city with other cities of India.

With the innovative AutoConnex feature, any smartphone with Connexun App will automatically connect to free Wi-Fi services.

Nikhil Aggarwal, the founder of Connexun, in a press release, stated that his concern aims to promote international tourism in Punjab through public-private partnership, as he was born and brought up in the holy city.
