3 thieves held, 28 mobile phones recovered

The city police have arrested three thieves in two separate instances and recovered as many as 28 mobile phones from their possession.

Sonu Khosla alias JoJo of the Yaseen Road area and Shammi Khosla of Hussainpura were arrested from near the bus stand where they had come to sell stolen mobile phones. The police authorities, in a statement issued here today, said the two had broken into a mobile phone shop in the Chowk Farid area, falling under the Kotwali police station on September 10, and had stolen mobile phones.

Yesterday, the CIA staff received a tip-off that the accused were standing near the Suraj Chanda Tara theatre near the bus stand for selling the mobile phones. He said a team raided the spot and arrested the two with eight mobiles phones. They were produced before the local court which sent them to three-day police remand. During their interrogation, the police recovered 15 more mobile phones from their possession.

Meanwhile, the Verka police have arrested a thief, Gurwinder Singh of Kaler Mangat village in Majitha, and recovered five mobile phones and Rs 9,000 cash from his possession. He had entered the home of Karamjit Kaur in the Ram Nagar area in Verka on the intervening night of October 1-2 and stolen the mobile phones besides Rs 35,000 in cash.
