Officials of the property tax wing of the Municipal Corporation have sealed three more properties of tax defaulters to achieve the target of tax recovery in the city today. After strictness by MC officials, the property tax wing also collected a significant amount as tax. It has collected Rs 34,28,564 during this month.

Pushpinder Singh, Superintendent of Property Tax along with Inspector Ashok Julka, has visited the defaulters on Batala Road. They have sealed three commercial establishments of the defaulters.

“We will not exempt any of the tax defaulters. There are clear instructions from senior officials to seal the buildings of tax defaulters. The collection has been increased with strictness and we will run this drive in next days also”, said Pushpinder Singh.

MC Commissioner Sonali Giri has issued instructions to issue notices to all the defaulters and seal their buildings if they continue to be defaulters.

The officials of the property tax wing are making hard efforts to meet the target of recovery which is Rs 35 crore till March 31.

Meanwhile, the officials of the property tax wing are annoyed with the tax exemption, given by the state government.

The officials said the government has exempted the property tax of all the Army personnel and ex-servicemen. This practice is affecting the collection of property tax badly.

“The Army personnel are respected and the government has to provide them facilities and good wages. But it is not justified to exempt the property tax. Now if some army official owns five star hotels, he would be exempted from tax. The city needs good roads and other infrastructure. If the government will exempt the taxes, how the MC will provide the infrastructures”, said an MC official.
