The city police have arrested three persons in two separate incidents for allegedly possessing country-made weapons. One of the weapons, a rifle, was looted from a bank near SSSS Chowk four years ago. Those arrested with the rifle were Karan Singh, alias Banti, of Gali Sattowali and Samson Masih of Navi Abadi, Faizpura. Ironically, both the suspects were involved in stealing weapons and the police failed to arrest them during the period.

DCP Jagmohan Singh said a team of special staff was patrolling near Goddess Bhadarkali Temple when they found two persons trying to hide themselves. They frisked them to find a .12 bore rifle with 10 live cartridges. During investigation, it was found that two rifles were stolen from Punjab and Sind Bank near SSSS Chowk in 2014. The thieves could not decamp with cash as the alarm went off. The police had arrested Gagandeep Singh of Ludhiana and confiscated a weapon.

ACP (Investigations) Palwinder Singh said the duo was produced in the court and brought on police remand for further interrogation. The police team is trying to ascertain if they committed any crime using the weapon. He said they were also investigating how did they get the weapon stolen from the bank.

Meanwhile, the police nabbed another person, Harichand, alias Dev, of Islamabad for allegedly possessing a country-made .32 bore pistol. He runs a gym in the area and had kept the weapon illegally. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
