The district Health Department has registered 290 dengue patients this year, which are more as compared to the previous year. Last year, the count was 222.

Even though the dengue count in the district was less earlier, it has seen a steep rise in the past 10 days. Health officials said 80 per cent of the cases were reported from the city area. They said only few cases were reported from rural areas.

District Epidemiologist Dr Madan Mohan said the maximum number of cases had been reported from walled city areas with a dense population.

“To check the spread of the disease, we are conducting fogging in the areas from where dengue cases are being reported,” he said. District health officials said with the arrival of winters, the dengue virus would become ineffective within next few days.
