The traffic police challaned 25 students driving two-wheelers for breaking traffic rules on Thursday.
ACP (Traffic) Prabhjot Singh Virk said a majority of students were from two prominent private schools in the city. He said noose would be tightened around errant students of other schools soon. “Parents allow minor schoolchildren to drive two-wheelers despite the fact that it is against traffic norms. The police are planning to take action against their parents under Section 180 of the Motor Vehicles Act,” he said.
Under the Act, allowing unauthorised persons to drive vehicles is punishable with imprisonment, which may extend to three months, and fine or both.
