Amritsar, December 31

As 2015 draws to a close, there will be a lot that the citizens would be expecting in the New Year for the city. 2015 had seen the city being deprived of its green cover, launch of new projects, the aggravated sanitary and garbage conditions and citizens crying out loud for basic amenities. Though the year has ended with a promise of improved conditions and a better Amritsar with the aspirations of becoming a Smart City, we ask its chosen citizens about their resolutions towards a building a better Amritsar in 2016.

Pradeep Sabbarwal, MC Commissioner

2015 brought the ambitious BRTS project to the city, which will hopefully be completed by 2016. We are determined to beautify the city with more infrastructure and aesthetic development and also add to its heritage value. A project of laying underground wires and solid waste management plant will begin in early 2016. 2016 will be a year of hope and healthy development for city.

Sandeep Rishi, Chairman, AIT

We are resolute towards making the city cleaner and more green in 2016. I also wish to contribute towards all-around development of the city and continue our efforts to involve citizen support and benefit with our projects.

Jatinder Singh Aulakh, Commissioner of Police

Our resolution will be to make the city more disciplined and implement rules in terms of law and order. We will also work towards achieving transparency in our efforts to maintain law and order in the city.

Seenu Arora, president, Voice of Amritsar

My resolution will always be to achieve a clean and green city, which we have been working towards for the past 10 years or our establishment. Every year, lots of promises are made and projects are launched, but substantially nothing much has changed. So, we hope that this time with the solid was management plant in place, the city will be rid of one of its most weeding problems. On our part, we would like to contribute and educate more citizens about their responsibilities towards keeping the city clean.

Gunbir Singh, Chairman, WWF India

As people rooted to the city and aspiring to bring change, we resolve to redouble our endeavour for a city in harmony with the vision of its founder. Changing mindsets is a challenge but together as responsive citizens, we can make it happen. Let 2016 be a year of accomplishment towards a better Amritsar.
