2 robbers held, 3 dodge police

With the arrest of two persons, the rural police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers. A pistol and a sharp weapon have been seized from them. Three of their accomplices managed to escape.

Those arrested were identified as Dilbagh Singh Baga of Budha Theh village and Simranjit Singh of Bhullar village. Their absconding accomplices are Jaswinder Singh, alias Boxer, Harpreet Singh of Bhullar village and Nishan Singh of Nijjar village.

Heera Singh, investigating officer, said the police received a tip off on Thursday that the accused had gathered near Wajir Bhullar Madia village and were planning to commit a robbery. “A team of highway patrol was taken along and raid was conducted. Dilbagh and Simranjit were overpowered while three others fled taking advantage of darkness,” he said.

During search, the police found a pistol with an inscription — KF 7.63. Besides, three live cartridges from Dilbagh and a sharp weapon from Simranjit were seized. He said further investigation was under way and the police were hoping to solve more cases besides making more recoveries. Raids were on to nab the three who are at large.

Sections 399, 402 of the IPC and 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act have been slapped.
