A local firm, Food Limited, Gohalwar, has accused a truck driver of misappropriating 240 quintal of rice worth Rs 21 lakh. Gulshan Kumar, manager of the firm, stated in his police complaint that he hired a truck (PB-09-X-6981) of a transport company of Amritsar on January 26 and entrusted drivers Kulwant Singh and Dalbir Singh of Ibrahimwala, Kapurthala, with taking 240 quintal of rice (1121 variety) to Telangana.

According to the complainant, he tried contacting the drivers next day but couldn’t as their mobiles were switched off. Upon contacting transporter Saranjit Singh, Gulshan came to know that Kulwant Singh had informed the former regarding robbery of the rice. Gulshan, along with Saranjit, went to Kulwant Singh who informed that he was consuming liquor at a dhaba in Gohalwar where someone gave him some intoxicating substance to make him unconscious following which the rice was taken away from the truck.

Gulshan said the driver had concocted the story to misappropriate the rice valuing Rs 21 lakh.
