Amritsar, September 19

Two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) have been staring at suspension following their negligent attitude that led to a snatching incident two days ago. The duo was deputed at a checkpoint near Trillium shopping mall when the incident took place.

The action was initiated after a video of former Congress councillor Manjit Singh Manna went viral. In the video he claimed that three youths had repeatedly informed the cops at the checkpoint about a biker moving in the area in suspicious manner. They had come to a car agency located in front of the shopping mall. The checkpoint was installed around 100 feet distance from the agency. The biker had covered his face while papers were pasted on the number plate. They asked the cops to intercept and question him as he was apparently waiting for a target. The youth even offered them to come in their car and they will take him to the youth. However, they declined and did not initiate any action.

The youth later followed the suspect biker who snatched gold chain of a girl at some distance from the checkpoint. Though they tried to catch him, but he managed to slip away.

When the incident came to light, Manna reached the spot, along with the victim, and circulated the video message on social media. Soon, it went viral.

Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill, Police Commissioner, said that both the cops belonged to Punjab Armed police and we have recommended disciplinary proceedings against them. They would be suspended for such negligent attitude.
