Two persons, said to be addicts, were found murdered under mysterious circumstances at a house in Valmiki Gali of Mohalla Jaswant Singh on Tuesday night. The deceased have been identified as Yograj Singh Kalia (21) and Lakhwinder Singh Ladi (42). The police have launched investigation into the murder.

Yograj Singh was of Kathunangal. He had been residing here at his sister’s house almost since his birth. Lakhwinder Singh, father of two kids, too resided in the same street. Since he was an addict, his wife had left him for years to reside with her parents. Lakhwinder’s sister Maya, who lived nearby, used to serve him food. Yograj was a frequent visitor to Lakhwinder’s house as he, too, was drug addict, locals say.

Yograj was missing from his house for one day. His brother-in-law Manga Singh went in search of him late on Tuesday night. He visited Maya, sister of Lakhwinder Singh. They came to the residence of Lakhwinder where they knocked at the door of Lakhwinder. Getting no response, they broke open the door and found both murdered. The bodies were in a pool of blood and one was stacked on the other.

DSP Sucha Singh said liquor bottles and an iron rod were found at the spot. He suspected that there must be many persons at the time of the incident and a dispute over some issue may have arisen, resulting in the murders. The victims were hit on their heads.

The postmortem on the bodies was performed at the local Civil Hospital on Wednesday. Later, the bodies were cremated.

The police have registered a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC.
