The police have arrested a vehicle “thief” and confiscated two illegal weapons from his possession. He has been identified as Ramanpreet Singh of Nangal Pannua village, falling under the Majitha police station. His accomplice Sajan Singh is yet to be arrested, the police said.
Jaspal Singh, SHO, Majitha road police station, said Ramanpreet, along with Sajan, had stolen a bike from Majitha road area three days ago. He was identified from a CCTV grab. Yesterday, the accused was intercepted near the ESI Hospital Colony with a bike. Upon being questioned, Raman informed that the stolen motorcycle was with Sajan Singh, who was absconding from his residence. During search, the police recovered two country-made weapons with eight live cartridges. The police also impounded the bike used in the crime.
The SHO said raids were on to arrest Sajan. Ramanpreet was produced in a court and taken on police remand. He said the police were investigating the source of illegal weapons.
