Amritsar, December 5

Jodh Singh Samra, Ajnala halqa in-charge of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), on Thursday criticised the state government for its failure to provide benefits of the state and the Central-sponsored social schemes to the needy persons. Speaking at a public gathering, Samra said the government had increased electricity tariffs many times in the last years.

“People are facing it difficult to run their kitchens and government instead of providing them any benefit has increased the electricity charges,” he said adding that electricity rates in the state are the highest in the country and the government should refrain from increasing the rates.

Samra alleged that many eligible beneficiaries in his constituency were not getting the benefits of old-age pension and other schemes.

He also alleged that the distribution of benefit under the Pardan Mantri Awas Yojna was also arbitrary and instead of eligible beneficiaries, the benefit is being given to ineligible persons. Senior councillor Jaspal Singh said residents living in the rural areas were not getting proper medical facilities and benefits of the government schemes.
