Exploring the relationships in a joint family, the clashes of ideology between the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law and the connecting roles played by different characters in a society as well as family, the play, ‘Hakam Di Jagir’, was staged at Punjab Naatshala. The quirky yet meaningful play was presented by the Millenium School team and directed by Nandini Malhotra.

The story begins with a simple, seemingly harmless bickering between ‘saas and bahu’ in a joint family. With the silent participation of the men in the house, the gradual increasing intensity of the arguments leads to a stage where the family eventually breaks, everyone leading their own way. The underlying symbolism in the narrative hints towards social and political issues like terrorism and communalism.
