Amritsar, May 26

The independent production by a city-based medical officer Dr Jaswinder Gandhi ‘Ghar Aaja Jeetu’ has won the Award of Merit at the International Film Festival.

The film, based on a true story, has been shot in Amritsar and features local artistes. The award will be given to the film at a ceremony on June 9 and the film will be screened extensively across Indonesia.

Dr Gandhi shared his excitement and surprise at the win. “I was completely surprised that my humble initiative that has won such applauds at an international level. The festival boosts meaningful cinema, screening films based on social issues. Mine was the only Indian film entry at the festival,” he said. The film has also been invited to be screened at the Reel Recovery Film Festival held in USA, an event that encourages the fight against substance abuse through powerful cinema.

’Ghar Aaja Jeetu’ took three years in making and was screened recently at Punjab Natshala in association with Voice of Amritsar. “The film is based on a real life story that I witnessed and that shook me from inside. I wanted to make it, not for some materialistic gains but as an honest effort to show how substance abuse affects several lives, especially on the women. The film took almost all my resources, physically and emotionally. It feels nice to see that my effort is being appreciated,” he said.

Members of Voice of Amritsar, who are supporting the film, too shared their happiness over the win.
