AMRITSAR: As the polling for the 2019 general elections is under way in phases across the nation, the political parties, apart from carrying out intensive election campaigns, are also busy trying to catch the attention of of people, mainly youngsters, on social media platforms too.

As the polling for the 2019 general elections is under way in phases across the nation, the political parties, apart from carrying out intensive election campaigns, are also busy trying to catch the attention of of people, mainly youngsters, on social media platforms too.City youngsters feel that constant sharing of messages through Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, etc., can influence people, so they should keep themselves informed about the details of the candidates they are planning to vote for.

Samridhi Aneja, a student of Masters of Multimedia, BBK DAV College for Women, said, “There are pros and cons of social media. It can impact a young mind and influence his or her choice. People should vote keeping in mind their knowledge about the candidates and the political parties without getting influenced by what is being shared on social media.”

Siraj Ahmed, a management student, said, “Yes, the medium can leave an impression on students, who are busy with their studies and they might not have time to verify the facts. One should make a wise decision when it comes to voting. If a piece of information is shown 10 times a day, a person might start to believe it.

Harpreet Singh, president of the GNDU representative body, said, “There is an ample of information available for each one of us in the digital world. One should vote rationally rather than emotionally under the influence of anything.”
