Workshop on polio organised

The office of civil surgeon Tarn Taran conducted a one-day workshop regarding national immunization round of pulse polio on Saturday. The workshop was attended by senior medical officers, medical officers, block extension educators and multipurpose health supervisors (female) of the district.

Civil Surgeon Dr Anoop Kumar and district immunisation officer Dr Suman Wadhawan presided over the event. Dr Rishi Sharma from World Health Organisation (WHO) was the key speaker and shared vital details about the polio programme.

The three-day national polio round would start on January 19. Children in the age group of 0-5 years would be administered polio drops.

Dr Sharma said, “Since 2011 no case of polio has been reported across the country”.

Dr Anoop Kumar said the department would cover 1,47,652 children below the age group of 0-5 years in the district. The department has constituted 635 booths, 1,209 mobile teams, 31 transit teams, 2,715 vaccinators and deputed 149 supervisors for monitoring and functioning.

He said apart from residential areas, the department would also visit inhabitations of migratory workers and no child would be left unimmunised.
