Two-day workshop begins at GND varsity

The Centre of Pre-Service Teacher Education of the School of Education, under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, inaugurated a two-week workshop on ‘Development of module for effective internship programme in teacher education courses’ at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), to develop a structured internship programme capsule at the university.

What the workshop is about

  • The basic goal of the workshop is to analyse the issues and challenges the teacher education institutions are facing and to develop a framework, sample designs of training material.

  • Around 35 teachers’ educators from various parts of the country are participating in the workshop organised under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching. .

The module will formulise activities, map the timing and design specific roles to be played by school principals, subject teachers as mentors, teacher educators, universities, government organisations such as the SCERT, in such a way that teacher interns develop practical competencies and appropriate attitudes.

The basic goal of the workshop is to analyse the issues and challenges the teacher education institutions are facing and to develop a framework, sample designs of training material and evaluation formats for effective internship programme to prepare effective teachers based on the mission ‘Ache Sikshak, Achi Siksha’.

Around 35 teachers’ educators from various parts of the country are participating in the workshop. While inaugurating the workshop, Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, vice-chancellor of the GNDU, laid stress on the development of sensitive, empathetic and contemplative teachers, who can energise and address to individual needs of students. He said internship needed to be structured and evaluated professionally as was being done in courses such as medicine or law.
