Three robbers held

The Kathunangal police arrested three miscreants who were planning to loot an ATM at Pakharpur village here on Thursday. Two of their accomplices managed to escape from the spot.

According to the police, the accused were planning to break open and loot an ATM when the raid was conducted following a tip-off. Those arrested have been identified as Skatar Singh of Kayampur village falling under the Ajnala police station, Avtar Singh and his brother Lakhwinder Singh, both residents of Rampur village.

A case under Sections 399 and 402 of the IPC was registered against them. Further interrogation is under way to identify and arrest the miscreants.

Amritsar (Rural) SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal said the police got a tip-off that the accused were robbers and standing near a langar hall at Pakharpur village and were planning some dacoity. Immediately, a police team, headed by Paramjit Singh, SHO, Kathunangal police station, raided the spot. Taking advantage of darkness, two of their accomplices managed to run away.

Three robbers were produced in court which remanded them in four-day police custody. A preliminary probe revealed that they were planning to loot an ATM in Jaintipur or Batala area. The police recovered the car (PB02-AM-0880), a jack to break open the shutter, a screwdriver, a sharp weapon and a cutter from their possession.

Skatar had around 13 cases of robberies registered against him. Avtar and Lakhwinder were earlier wanted in cases of robberies. — TNS
