The poor condition of Tarn Taran roads causes a lot of inconvenience to commuters and locals. The administration and the civic body are not paying attention to the problem. Tarn Taran, a holy town established by Fifth Sikh Master Guru Arjun Dev, also houses the district headquarters. It witnesses thousands of devotees and commuters daily. The administration has failed to get the encroachments removed from roads and markets, which adds to the commuters’ woes. According to an estimate, over 5,000 vehicles are witnessed in the town daily. There are no parking spaces in the town. Due to this, auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, taxis and cars, meant for transportation and other purposes, are parked haphazardly on roads and cause traffic snarls. From politicians to the administration, no one is paying heed to the problem being faced by locals. Though a year back, crores were spent on renovation of roads, due to poor quality work and substandard material, the situation didn’t improve and roads developed cracks within a week. The work on Noordi road was left mid-way and a portion of it was not levelled properly, causing a number of road mishaps. Commuters Major Singh Bakipur, Balkar Singh, Sartaj Singh, Sukhchain Singh Sandha and others also sought a probe into the quality of work done here. The PWD and the Municipal Council often repair the roads but due to poor quality work, the condition of roads turns bad again. The authorities concerned must look into the issue and get the needful done immediately so that the commuters and locals don’t face inconvenience.
