Amritsar, December 6

With the district administration, the Amritsar Municipal Corporation and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited not showing any concern about the nuisance created by loosely hanging cables in residential areas, a web of different wires can be seen outside almost every house in localities on GT Road from Putlighar to Chheharta. The cables of internet service provider companies and electricity wires alongside roads are an open invitation to accidents.

Minor incidents of spark and short-circuit are often reported in Putalighar, Guru Arjan Dev Nagar, Islamabad and Inderpuri areas.

The wires are installed by cable operators and internet service providers. Cable operators and internet companies did not take permission from the authorities to install cables and wires. The MC is even not aware about that which company of service provider installed wires in residential localities.

The PSPCL authorities are also not concerned about the mess of electric wires. Any untoward incident can happen due to negligence of the power department. The poles installed by PSPCL are also being used by cable operators.

Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Inderpuri, said, “There should be check on the illegal practice of installing the web of cables in residential areas. The loosely hanging cables and wires should not be ignored anymore. The district administration and the MC should take action in this regard. The cable operators and internet service providers are supposed to lay underground wires.”

“The hanging electricity and TV cables on roads give an ugly look. These hanging wires cause road accidents. The hanging wires on roads also hinder movement of large vehicles. There should be some rules to install the wires,” said Sandeep Singh, a resident of Guru Arjan Dev Nagar.
