The court extended his police remand for the second time. Earlier, it extended his remand by three days, which expired today. Heavy police security was deputed in the court complex. It was turned into a police fortress while activists from Nihang Sikh organisations were also there.

Confirming the development, a Special Investigating Team (SIT), headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagjit Singh Walia, said investigations were in progress and he was needed for the probe.

Sources in the police said during analysing call details, the police identified 81 phones numbers, including foreign numbers, on which he regularly talked in the past one year. While Sandeep’s counsels demanded judicial custody for him, the police sought extension of remand by four days in view of the call details. They also said the suspect was not cooperating with the SIT. Meanwhile, the forensic examination report of his mobile and weapons were yet be looked into, said the police official wishing not be named.

Suri was shot dead on November 4 outside Gopal Mandir where he was holding a protest against its management for alleged disrespect of idols and pictures of Hindu deities. Despite being under police security cover, Sandeep shot him dead. Sandeep was arrested from the spot with the weapon.
