SGPC seeks Centre's help to send panel to Kabul

SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami has decided to send a delegation to Afghanistan to take stock of the plight of Sikhs and Hindus living there. For this, he recently shot off a communique to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar seeking his intervention to finalise the modalities of the delegation.

The SGPC chief said a delegation of the Shiromani Committee would inquire about the plight of Sikhs and discuss with leaders and officials of the Afghan government about the safety and security of Sikh and Hindu residents. He said Sikhs residing in Afghanistan were worried about their safety.

At the same time, the condition of Sikh historical sites, the required Kar Sewa and maintenance are also very important. He said the SGPC wanted to take care of the Sikh heritage and shrines in Afghanistan. Besides, the SGPC was ready to help the victims of the recent earthquake in Afghanistan.

Appreciating the efforts of the Narendra Modi government to bring Sikhs and Hindus to India in this hour of crisis, he stated that the SGPC, being an apex body of the Sikh community, has a duty to help Sikhs in Afghanistan and take care of the historic Sikh shrines.
