Amritsar, February 26

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami has written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and appealed to initiate steps to transfer Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh and other Sikh youths detained in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail to a jail in Punjab.

Amritpal’s mother Balwinder Kaur and some others have been observing a hunger strike for the past four days in Amritsar, demanding his shifting to a Punjab jail.

Yesterday, a woman Hardeep Kaur fainted and Amritpal’s mother Balwinder Kaur’s blood pressure too had fallen.

Dhami has asked the CM to ensure the privacy rights of Sikh youths detained in Dibrugarh and get them transferred to Punjab.

In his letter, the SGPC chief said that it has been brought to the attention of the families that cameras and recorders were installed in their barracks in breach of their right to privacy. He expressed concern over a possible conspiracy being hatched against the youths inside the jail. Dhami said these Sikh youths belong to Punjab, so their detention should also be here.
