Sex-determination: 2 doctors among four booked in Amritsar

The local police have booked for persons, including two doctors of a private ultrasound centre, under the Pre Conception-Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act for the alleged involvement in conducting sex-determination tests.

The Health Department had on Friday conducted a raid at DM Diagnostic Centre on Majitha Road and allegedly found it involved in conducting sex-determination test on a decoy patient.

The accused include Mamta, a resident of Preet Nagar Verka; Sandeep Kaur, a resident of Tarn Taran road; Dr Nivedita, a radiologist at the centre and Dr Divyesh Mahajan, owner of the centre.

The officials at Majitha Road police station said the case has been registered

on a complaint filed by the official of the Health Department, who had accompanied the raiding team.

The Investigating Officer in the case, Assistant Sub Inspector Nirmal Singh confirmed that four persons have been booked under Sections 22, 23, 5, 6, 4 and 29 of the PC-PNDT Act.
