Sarpanch among four booked for youth’s murder in Majitha village

A 16-year-old youth identified as Pawanjit Singh was killed in a murderous assault at Galowali village in Majitha here late last evening.

On the complaint filed by the family members, the police have booked village sarpanch Deepak, Ajay, Suraj and Sanjay for the murder.

According to information, one of the suspects was arrested by the police. However, there was no official confirmation about his arrest till the filing of the report.

Karanjit Singh, elder brother of the deceased, told the police that they were three brothers. Amritpal Singh is the eldest brother, while Pawanjit Singh is the youngest. He said all of them worked as construction mason. He said yesterday there was a birthday party of Karan’s daughter, who lives in the village. He said Amritpal Singh had gone to attend the party. He said as he got late, he along with his brother Pawanjit and father Harjit Singh went to take him. He said when they reached the spot they saw the accused having an arguments with Amritpal. He said when they intervened, the accused got enraged.

He alleged that the accused attacked them with sharp weapons. A sickle hit Pawanjit, who started bleeding profusely and got critically injured. His father Harjit Singh also got injured in the attack. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared Pawanjit dead.

The police registered a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC against the accused, said Himanshu Bhagat, SHO of the Majitha police station, while adding that raids were on to nab the suspects who were at large since the incident.
