Robbers shoot man, take away valuables

Amritsar, November 17

Three armed persons shot a youth and snatched his mobile and purse in Lohgarh village, falling under the Khalchian police station, here yesterday evening. The victim, identified as Gurpreet Singh (26), was having a walk after dinner when the robbery took place near Lohgarh village distributary.

The police have registered a case, but yet to make any breakthrough.

Victim’s father Sukhdev Singh, who owns a sweet shop, said his son was strolling near the village drain when three unknown persons came on a bike and shot, hitting him in his ribs. Leaving him critically injured, the assailants fled with his mobile phone and purse. Gurpreet has five sisters.

Paramjit Singh, SHO, Khalchian police station, said the victim was unfit to record his statement and the bullet was removed by doctors at Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. He said an investigation was under way to identify the suspects.

He said a case under Sections 307, 379-B (2) of the IPC and 25, 27, 54, 59 the Arms Act was registered.

The victim’s family wants the police to identify and arrest the robbers responsible for the crime.
