Amritsar, January 6

Movement of many trains was disrupted and passengers were inconvenienced as Valmiki organisations block Amritsar-Delhi rail route at Vallah railway crossing for not taking action against those who uttered disrespectful words against Maharishi Valmiki.

Departure of Shatabdi, Sachkhand and Amritsar-Chandigarh Superfast trains was delayed. These trains were delayed by two to three hours. Train blockade remained between 4 am and 6 am. Rajinder Nath Shergill, chairman, Valmiki Dharam Samaj, said the protesters stopped the trains on the directions of Pawan Valmiki Tirath.

He said a Mohali-based female advocate compared a gangster with Bhagwan Valmiki. He said earlier a priest of Mata Vaishno Dev Shrine Board had made the same remarks. He said the community was hurt at repeated acts of denigrating the reputation of Lord Valmiki.
