Potholes, dug-up roads during rains pose risk to commuters in Amritsar

City roads have become tough to commute after rain these days. Potholes, repair work sites and manhole covers have made the roads unsafe. Many such spots lead to accidents, especially involving two-wheelers.

Residents pointed out that the Batala road was dug up months ago for some work near the Sun City turn, but till date the pothole has not been filled.

“During monsoon when roads are inundated, it becomes difficult to gauge the depth of potholes covered in water, leading to vehicles getting stuck in them. Besides, the potholes are risky for the lives of two-wheeler riders or rickshaw-pullers. Driving through potholes proves to be a costly affair as tyres of cars may get stuck in them,” said a resident, Sukhwant Singh.

The Custom Chowk is another point where a pothole has been caused due to rain. The resident say there are many such points where potholes galore.

“The administration must make the roads safe for commuters. Any loss of life in a road accident is an irreparable loss for the family,” another resident said, adding that at least some warning sign should be put up at all these vulnerable places to avoid any untoward mishap.
