Amritsar, June 18

The Health Department is all set for a three-day polio immunisation drive in the district from Sunday.

Officials of the department said on the first day of the drive, polio booths would be set up at various places in the district where parents can bring their children for immunisation. On the remaining two days, health teams would run a door-to-door campaign and administer polio drops to children aged below five years of age, who were not brought to the immunisation booths.

Civil Surgeon Dr Charanjit Singh said the department had identified 1.14 lakh children in the district, who would be immunized. He said they had constituted 699 teams to complete the drive.

The Civil Surgeon said though India had been declared a polio-free nation, some cases were still being reported from the neighbouring countries, which was a cause for concern.
