Amritsar, November 27

The police claim to have found vital clues about the suspects who had shot dead a youth, identified as Mandeep Singh, at Pandori Waraich village a week ago.

A day after gunning down the youth, members of the Batala-based Pavitar group had claimed the responsibility on social media while adding that they shot another youth at Jijeyani village one hour after the incident.

“We have identified the killers and a manhunt has been launched to nab them. We are tracing their whereabouts,” said Amritsar (Rural) SSP Vikram Jeet Singh Duggal. However, the SSP denied giving the names saying it could hamper the investigation.

Mandeep had sustained around 10 bullet injuries when he was returning home.

An alleged gangster, Harwinder Singh Sandhu, wrote on Facebook that “they had killed Mandeep for their honour”. According to the police, the gang, the kingpin of which is Batala-based Pavitar Singh, has its association with notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, who is currently lodged in the Patiala jail.

Sandhu also posted pictures of two alleged gangsters, including Husandeep Singh. Pavitar and Husandeep are currently residing somewhere in the United States, said a police official.

While warning others, Sandhu wrote in the post that “if they can fire 25 bullets, they can fire 100 also”. They said Jijeyani village resident Triptpal Singh and Mandeep had an old enmity with them. He said Triptpal wanted to eliminate their friends.

The Amritsar (Rural) SSP said the police were working on different angles. He said call details of Mandeep and Triptpal were being investigated to ascertain any links with anti-social elements.
