Amritsar, June 23

A girl (8) was allegedly raped by a youth in Mallunangal village, under Kamboh police, here. The accused has been identified as Shamsher Singh of the same village. He was yet to be arrested.

The victim’s aunt lodged a complaint. She said on Tuesday, she had gone to sow paddy and her niece was alone at home. She said in the evening, their neighbour Shamsher entered the house and pulled her into the room, where he raped her. The accused also threatened to kill her in case she raised an alarm. He covered her mouth so that her shrieks were not audible. Kamboh police have registered a case under Sections 376 (A), (B) and 506 of the IPC and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act. The police said the medical examination of the victim was being carried out and raids were on to nab the suspect.
