Mock drill conducted at city airport

A mock drill to check the efficacy and preparedness of the airport fire service and other coordinating agencies to handle ‘aircraft crash in airport’ was conducted at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport here on Tuesday.

Officials from airlines, ground handling agencies, state administration, police department, BCAS, CISF and the Airports Authority of India participated in the mock drill. The stake holders conducted an exercise by creating an imaginary scenario of ‘aircraft crash’ at 5 pm and successfully ended at 5.45 pm. Observers from various organisations provided their valuable feedback which was welcomed by the Airports Authority of India for better mitigation of emergency. The exercise ended with vote of thanks from Manoj Chansoria, Airport Director, Airports Authority of India with the message that we hope these incidents may never happen, however, we need to be prepared if and when it happens with close coordination of all the stakeholders.
