Minor dies, suv driver booked

Amritsar: The police have booked a person, who was driving an SUV, after the death of an eight-year-old boy. The victim was injured in an accident on November 30. The suspect has been identified as Kuljeet Singh of Tarsikka. The child was going to Bheelowal village from Nath Di Khooi village on a tractor-trailer with his parents when an SUV hit the vehicle while overtaking. Victim’s father Balbir Singh said the SUV was being driven at a high speed. He said his wife and son fell off the tractor after the accident. Thereafter, both were taken to a hospital. While Balbir’s wife was seriously injured, his son succumbed to injuries. Investigating Officer Balbir Singh from the Mehta Police station said a case under Sections 304-A and 279 of the IPC had been registered. TNS

Four held for illegal mining

Amritsar: The Lopoke police have arrested four persons on the charge of illegal mining. The police have also seized four tractor-trolleys loaded with 1,600 cubic feet of sand. ASI Narinder Singh said four tractors-trolleys were stopped at the Khasa turn near Ram Tirath during a checking. He said the sand loaded in the trolleys was brought from an illegal sand mine on a water body in the area. The suspects have been identified as Manga Singh of Tera Rajputtan, Sukhjinder Singh and Angrej Singh of Talo village and Pyara Singh of Vehra. A case has been registered. TNS

No Asr-Howrah Mail today

Amritsar: The 13006 Amritsar-Howrah Mail will remain cancelled on Dec 3 due to non-interlocking work. Sources said the decision has been taken due to non-interlocking work at the Manduadih station in connection with doubling work between Maduadih-Hardattpur and Lohta bypass line. TNS
