The Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Law University proposed in the state Budget on Friday will be established in Kairon village, 20 kilometers from here. Lok Sabha member Jasbir Singh Dimpa, MLA Harminder Singh Gill and Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal visited the proposed site of the university on Saturday.

Dimpa, while addressing a gathering in the village, welcomed the decision and said the university would not only give higher education to locals but also provide them with increased job avenues as students over the country would come to study here.

He said the university would start functioning from the next academic session in April from the hostel built in the village. He also thanked the government for reserving Rs 15 crore for the development of Harike Wetland as a tourist spot. MLA Harminder Singh Gill said the 25 acres of the village school would be given to the law university.
