Illegal mining: Vehicles seized

Amritsar: Acting on a tip-off, officials of the Mining Department and Ramdass police station conducted a raid at Malakpur village where illegal excavation of sand was being carrying out. The accused involved in illegal mining, however, fled the spot on seeing the police team leaving their vehicles behind. Abhishek Kumar of the Mining Department said they recovered three tippers and an earth excavator JCB machine from the spot. The accused have been identified as Gursahib Singh of Sufia village, Kanwaljit Singh of Kallomahal village and Major Singh of Lakhuwal village. They were booked under Section 379 of the IPC and 21 of the Mining and Mineral Act. Similarly, the mining officials led by junior engineer Pankaj Prashar recovered three vehicles and illegally-mined sand. He said they got a tip-off that that three unidentified persons had escaped the spot leaving behind three vehicles. They also found a mobile phone from there. A separate case under Section 21 of the Mining and Mineral Act was registered against unidentified persons in this regard. OC

Four held with 108-gm heroin

Tarn Taran: The Goindwal Sahib police arrested four drug traders with 108-gm heroin on Saturday. The police said a police party led by ASI Jatinder Singh arrested Ranjit Singh Gulla of Kallha village with 38-gm heroin. Meanwhile, Sukhdev Singh of Bhojowali, Harpal Singh of Bharowal and Gurjit Singh Rinku of Vein Poin were arrested with 70-gm heroin by a police party led by Sub-Inspector Iqbal Singh. The accused have been booked under Sections 21-B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act by Goindwal Sahib police station. oc

3 mobile phones recovered in jail

Amritsar: The Amritsar Central jail authorities confiscated three mobile phones during checking in the jail complex. The police booked two prisoners, Mehar Singh and Gurpreet Singh, in this regard. Separate cases under Sections 432 and 52-A of the Prisons Act was registered. TNS

1 held for using CJM’s computer

Tarn Taran: A person was arrested for working on the official computer of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Tarn Taran, Rajesh Ahluwalia without any authority on Saturday. The CJM noticed it and lodged a complaint with the local Sadar police. The accused has been identified as Rajwinder Singh of the local Rodupur Mohalla. The CJM in his complaint to the police said the accused with a fake identity card was sitting in the room of Ahlmad on the computer on Saturday. A case under Sections 465 and 470 of the IPC had been registered.
