Husband booked for demanding dowry

Just over two weeks of marriage, a newly married government schoolteacher was allegedly physically assaulted and detained by her husband.

The incident came to light after she was rescued by her brother and got her admitted to a private hospital for treatment. The victim lodged a complaint with the police following that a case of dowry, domestic violence and illegal detention was registered against her husband, identified as Vishal Sharma and his mother Kamla Rani, both residents of Rishi Vihar.

Madhuri Sehdev, the victim, stated to the police that she works as government teacher at Jaintipur. She said she was married to Vishal Sharma on April 24 and on the next day of the marriage, Vishal and his mother asked her to open a joint account with him. They said as they wanted to buy a plot and needed a cash of Rs 25 lakh. However, she refused to give them her savings.

She alleged that on May 7, pm, her mother-in-law and Vishal came to her room and threatened her. She alleged they said if she would not give her savings or cash to them, they would kill her. She alleged the accused physically assaulted her and took her ornaments and mobile phone.

ASI Satpal Singh said a case has been registered and further investigations were under progress.
