Amritsar, March 5

The Customs Department at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport seized 449-gm gold from a passenger here on Tuesday.

The passenger had reached the airport from Dubai by a SpiceJet flight. A department official stated that the checking staff found the passenger’s behaviour suspicious during routine checking. During scanning and checking of suspicious items in his baggage, the staff found a noodle-making machine in which the gold in crude form was concealed. The estimated value of the gold was around Rs 28 lakh.

The smuggled gold has been seized under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. A probe is on.
