Girls ahead of boys in every field, says minister

Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO today participated in special Lohri celebrations. He distributed childcare kits among 50 newborn girls at the Community Health Centre in Manawala village during the celebrations.

Addressing the gathering at the event, ETO said, “Our girls are ahead of boys in every field. Whether it is education or sports, girls are not less than boys, provided they are given a chance. Equal opportunities should be given to them.”

He said, “We should eliminate evils like dowry from society and encourage boys to respect girls.”

Chanakh Singh, Satinder Singh, Senior Medical Officer Sumit Singh and a large number of parents of newborn girls were present on the occasion.

A special Lohri function was also held at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) to celebrate lifting of the MAKA Trophy by university for the 25th time. The Guru Nanak Dev University (Non-Teaching) Employees Association and the Officers Association held joint celebrations on the occasion. As per instructions of the Punjab Government, university Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu announced release of four per cent DA for employees during the function.

While congratulating all present at the function, Prof Karanjit Singh Kahlon, Registrar, GNDU, said last year, the university got NAAC A++ grade with a score of 3.85/4 and this time, university again hit the mark by winning the MAKA Trophy for the 25th time.
