Four booked for seeking dowry in Tarn Taran

Tarn Taran: A dowry case was registered against a family after 10 months of lodging a complaint with the police. The victim was tortured over dowry and thrown out of her in-laws’ house a year ago. Parabhjit Kaur (28), daughter of Gurdatar Singh of Kot Budha village, was married to Hanspal Singh of Kariwala (Rania) Haryana on November 13, 2020, with Sikh traditions. The police with reference to the statement of the victim on Sunday said she was tortured physically and mentally for dowry soon after marriage. She was thrown out of the house by her in-laws on June 5, 2021, after being thrashed. The victim lodged a complaint on August 19, 2021, but the police denied to give her a patient hearing after which she approached the officials a number of times, but to no avail. Patti Sadar police finally registered a case under Sections 406, 498-A IPC on June 18 (Saturday), 2022, against four members of her in-laws’ family. The accused include Hanspal Singh, her husband; Bali Singh, her father-in-law; Mohinder Kaur, her mother-in-law; and Punjab Singh, her husband’s brother. OC

Man thrashes wife, booked

Tarn Taran: A man mercilessly thrashed his wife and even removed her clothes in Mundapind village on Saturday, when she objected to bringing his paramour home. The victim Gurjit Kaur (35) in her complaint to the Goindwal Sahib police said her husband Gursewak Singh was having an affair with one Aman, for which she had been objecting for years. She said he had been torturing her physically and mentally for the last six years as she objected to his affair. She said her husband came to the house on Saturday with the girl to which she objected. Gurjit Kaur said on objecting her husband’s shameful act, Gursewak and his brother Paramjit Singh Pamma beat her severely and even removed her clothes. Gurswewak Singh and Paramjit Singh have been booked under Sections 354, 354-B, 500, 323 and 34 of the IPC by the police. The accused have not been arrested so far. oc

One held with 35-gm heroin

Tarn Taran: A person was arrested by Khemkaran police with 35 gram of heroin on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Sona of Khemkaran. ASI Sahib Singh who arrested the accused said a case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS ACT has been registered. OC

Nahar is Gen Secy of Safai Union

Amritsar: A special meeting of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Safai Mazdoor and Sewerman Union was held in Ludhiana Municipal Corporation on Saturday. During the meeting Ashu Nahar of Amritsar Municipal Corporation was appointed the general secretary of the body. On being elected, Ashu Nahar said he will continue fighting for the rights of the employees.
