Five-day science camp concludes at DAV College

The Department of Sciences, DAV College, Amritsar, on the valedictory day of the five-day science camp ‘INSPIRE’, hosted a series of intellectual lectures to motivate students towards the field of science. Innovation in Science Pursuit for the Inspired Research (INSPIRE) is one of the innovative programmes developed by the Department of Sciences and Technology of the Government of India.

Around 242 students from 23 different schools from three districts of Punjab came to participate in the event.

This event was organised under the supervision of Dr Rajesh Kumar, Principal, DAV College; Dr Rupinder Kaur, programme coordinator and Dr Ashish Gupta, assistant programme coordinator. Rajesh Kumar welcomed all guests.

Sudershaan Kapoor, chairman, local managing committee, DAV, poised the event with his presence on the auspicious occasion. Sartaj Singh Chahal, ADCP, Amritsar, was the chief guest.

Principal Rajesh Kumar said it was important to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, so that India can develop as the growth engine of the world. He added that the basic objective of INSPIRE was to attract talent to study science and take it as a career.

Chahal congratulated the INSPIRE organising committee for organising such intellectual camps for the students. He said that such events provide an opportunity to students to interact with eminent scholars.

In the first session, Dr Puspendu Kumar Das, professor and chair, chemical sciences division, department of inorganic and physical chemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, delivered a lecture on “The Joy of Learning”. He narrated to students about art of learning and how learning can be best pursued as a source of enjoyment in science. He also discussed about various methodologies of learning to students.

In the second session, Dr Manish Gupta, associate professor, mathematics department, Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology, Bathinda, delivered a lecture on the ‘history of mathematics and the road ahead’. He talked about journey and voyage of mathematics to students and its relevance in present scenario.

At the end, Dr Ashish Gupta presented a report of the five-day event.
