Finance firm employee robbed

Amritsar: Three unidentified armed persons looted a finance firm employee identified as Gurbhej Singh of Mianwala village in Tarn Taran of Rs 90,000. He along with his friend Rahul Jadav, works at Bharat Finance having its branch at Dolenangal Road in Baba Bakala Sahib for collecting the recovery amount. He said on Friday, around 2pm, they were coming from Tarsikka side after collecting cash, when three persons came on a Bullet and stopped them at gunpoint. They had covered their faces. They snatched the cash and fled from the scene. The police have registered a case in this regard while further probe is on. TNS

Immigration fraud: 2 booked

Amritsar: The Ranjit Avenue police have booked two persons including a woman of Chandigarh-based immigration firm for allegedly duping a local resident on the pretext of sending him abroad. Wilson Warris told the police that Pooja Mahajan and Lovish Mahajan, having their immigration firm office at Sector 42 in Chandigarh, defrauded him of Rs5.50 lakh on the pretext of sending his son Ankash Warris to Canada. Neither they sent him abroad, nor returned the money, he alleged. The police have registered a case under Sections 420, 120-B of the IPC and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act against the duo. No arrest was made so far. The police said investigations were under progress. TNS

BJP leader seeks Bhullar’s release

Amritsar: Sarchand Singh, spokesperson of Damdami Taksal, who had joined the BJP recently, has written a letter to Chairman, National Minorities Commission, to secure the release of Davinderpal Singh Bhullar from jail. Sarchand said Bhullar has spent 27 years in jail and the Central Government had given relaxation to eight Sikh prisoners on the occasion 550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. Sarchand alleged that the AAP government in Delhi was not clearing the file of Bhullar’s release.
