Tarn Taran, November 28

Protesting against a proposal for setting up a toll plaza at Mannan village, 20 km from here, members of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee on Thursday blocked the Amritsar-Khemkaran highway.

The protesters also burnt an effigy of the Centre and the state government.

Harpreet Singh Sidhwa and Gurlal Singh Pandori, members of the committee, said the toll plaza would burden some of the devotees visiting Gurdwara Beer Baba Budha Sahib, Thatha, and Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Pahuwind.

They demanded the withdrawal of the notification regarding setting up the toll plaza.

Traffic was disrupted on the highway for hours due to the blockade by the protesters.
