Despite no transport services, students reach exam centres in Amritsar

Despite the Bharat Bandh call, students made it to their centres to take the CBSE and PSEB papers here on Friday. They did not face any problem in commuting to the examination centres and back.

In urban area centres, the impact of the bandh call was mixed, as schools and colleges were open, while in rural areas, students faced problems due to suspension of transport services, but they managed to reach the examination centre well in time.

The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) and the CBSE had issued an advisory for the Class X and XII students for Friday, asking them to reach the examination centres at least 60 minutes before the commencement of exams, keeping in view the probable delays due to the Bharat Bandh call which did affect traffic on Friday.

The CBSE conducted Class XII exams for biotechnology, knowledge tradition and practices of India, electronics technology, shorthand (English and Hindi), food nutrition & dietetics, library & information science, banking, early childhood care and education. The PSEB conducted the examination for religion for Class XII and science for Class X.

“Despite the bandh call, all examinations were conducted smoothly and without any inconvenience faced by students. Since the subjects for which the exams were conducted were not core subjects, the number of students, who took the exams, was less. Similarly, for PSEB, efforts were made by teachers to facilitate students, who faced connectivity issues, if at all,” shared a spokesperson for the District Education Department.

Meanwhile, students commuting to GNDU and colleges in city from rural areas did face commuting problems as all public transport including buses, private van operators and autos remained suspended. The attendance remained lower than usual in most city colleges and students commuting from distant places like Tarn Taran and Rajasansi, did face transport issues as these areas saw a complete bandh.
