Officials of the district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Shivdular Singh Dhillon, took oath to abide by the constitutional values on the occasion of Constitution Day here on Tuesday.
During a programme to mark the occasion at the District Parishad Hall earlier they read out the preamble of the constitution. They also took oath to ensure communal harmony and integration of the country.
The Deputy Commissioner in his address stated that the Constituent Assembly under the Chairmanship of Dr BR Ambedkar took two years 11 months and 18 days to complete its historic task of drafting the Constitution. He said the constitution was completed on this day in 1949 and was implemented on January 26, 1950.
In a separate programme organised by the cultural wing of Field Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at Ambedkar Bhawan, a programme was organised on the themes of Constitution Day, Swachh Bharat and Jal Shakti.
Chief guest Ankur Jeet Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, in his address said, “The Indian Constitution plays an important role in creating balance between different institutions and departments.
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting official Gurmeet Singh stated that people have many expectations from the government. Similarly, people have many responsibilities to the nation. Officials from Education and Health Departments also spoke on the occasion.
