Amritsar: Dr Abhijit Dam, secretary, Indian Association of Palliative Care, launched essentials of palliative care course at Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences here on Tuesday. He said apart from doctors and nurses, this course is also important for the students because a deep understanding of the facts gathered by palliative care regarding the patient's illness plays an important role in clinical care, with which cancer, HIV and AIDS, mental impairment, stroke and the last-stage diseases can be tackled. Dr AP Singh, dean, university, said, "The purpose of the university is not only to give medical education, but also to treat patients with ultra-modern techniques.” TNS

Farmer booked for farm fire

Amritsar: On the complaint of Guru Nanak Dev University staff, the Cantonment police have booked a farmer for stubble burning near university campus. The farmer has been identified as Joginder Singh of Mahal village. Heera Singh, assistant engineer at GNDU stated in his complaint that the accused violated the order of District Magistrate by burning stubble in his fields alongside the GNDU business school building. One held with .30 bore pistol

Tarn Taran: One .30 bore pistol and two live cartridges have been recovered from the possession of Ramandeep Singh of Veroke (Lopoke) by the CIA staff. Sub Inspector (SI) Charanjit Singh said Raman was nabbed from Jagatpur village on Tuesday by a police party. "The suspect has been booked under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act, said the SI.
