City resident loses Rs90K in cyber fraud

An unidentified person has duped a local resident of Rs90,000 in a cyber fraud. The victim has been identified as Anupam Gandhi, a resident of Majitha Road area.

The complainant said, “I had received calls on my phone number linked to my credit and debit cards. As I responded to the calls, Rs75,000 and Rs15,000 were debited from my accounts.”

He said he didn’t share any details of his cards or Paytm account with anyone. “I don’t know how the accused transferred the money my account. I am not aware how my cards were operated without sharing any OTP,” said the complainant.

The complainant has a saving account in the HDFC bank. He has also logged a complaint with the bank in this regard.

Jaspal Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Majitha Road police station said, “The matter is related to cyber crime. We have registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 66 of the Information and Technology Act, 2000, against an unidentified person. We have initiated a probe into the incident.”
